The first rose of the season is one of the fragrent, heirloom style. There are several buds about to open so it won't be long before we'll have bouquets in the house!

How to build a tree swing

This size is great for kids but a little snug for an adult. To make the swing bigger, even a two seat-er, just be sure to brace it well and to check the maximum load capacity for all parts. Hardware: Braided nylon rope 3/8", enough to reach from limb to ground twice plus 10' (I purchased brown, designed for hunting, but plain white or yellow would be cheaper); about 10' of twine; (2) lag screw eye bolts about 4.5" in length; (2) 5/16" quick link connectors or "S" links (these will allow for easy removal and installation each winter); wood screws, 1.5" long, I used leftover decking screws designed for use with cedar. Wood: redwood or cedar are great outdoor choices. I used a scrap piece of cedar leftover from the fence project about 17" long, 1" thick and 8" wide. New Curb Appeal

After two days away from the house, I returned to find that the gas company is finishing the connections and replaced the curb and sidewalk. I'm not terribly worried about the mint, it will probably fill back in by the end of summer. The only other concern is how the new section of road will impact drainage. Guess we'll find out next rainstorm!

Bright Ideas

Yesterday we received the latest catalog from Rejuvenation in the mail. It's filled with more than just lighting; there are stories about employees and customers, and photos of their products in actual homes. You can request a free copy for yourself or shop online. Though I have yet to actually transact a purchase, they were very helpful to my email inquiries regarding the restoration of some of our original lights. The only downside is that they are located in Oregon, a mere 2200 miles away. And since it's below freezing here, I'll just huddle under a blanket with my coffee and enjoy loking at all the bright ideas they have to offer.
