Today our town celebrated the annual Back to the Fifties Festival, which is mostly an antique car show with street vendors and local groups serving food. There were Beatles and Elvis tribute bands plus local performers. Overall a lot of fun.
An interesting side note was that the old jail was having an open house. It's been on the market for quite a while now. Still fascinating to walk through. You could almost hear Andy, Barney and Opie.
If anyone has half a million dollars and the desire to fix up a great community icon, have we got a deal for you. (note: my only interest is local history preservation, I make no money from this endorsement.)
If you're looking for ideas, my daughter would turn it into a vet clinic, but I think it would make a great bed and breakfast or restaurant.

In Western Iowa the is a squirrel cage jail. It is a round set of cells that rotates to the one outside door. Unless it is your turn you do not get out.
