Ever since we purchased the house five years ago, the three windows on the stair landing have remained shut. The PO, for what ever reason, had decided to seal them closed. After several hours on a ladder with my trusty scraper, two of them now open.
Now they weren't just painted shut, no! They were caulked, nailed AND painted shut. For a while I thought the best way was to remove the glass then tackle the frame, just because the glazing was so bad. But eventually they worked loose.
The funny thing is that even after they barred the windows, the owners kept the screens. So at least I have them to put in while I'm glazing the windows.
