New Identity

The daughter of our former neighbor stopped by to say hi and happened to mention a bit of info regarding one of our flowers. She said it's called False Dragonhead or Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana). Now our neighbor, before she passed away, had told us it was called Martha Washington's Plume but an Internet search proved that false. Her daughter indicated that she has some of the same stock and that it came from her grandmother's home near Hanover, Indiana. I'm always excited to correctly identify one of our heirloom plants, and to learn the heritage is just a bonus. The only disappointment was to learn that Obedient plants are part of the mint family, but that explains it's rapid spreading and will dictate its future placement.

This site will show you the real "Martha Washington's Plume," which is Filipendula rubra venustra, also known as Meadowsweet.
