Clean Beds

This afternoon I cleaned out several of the flower beds and trimmed up the clematis on the garage. Now I have a pile of leaves and stuff that I can't put into this year's compost bin until after I empty the good compost onto the beds!
The plan for the next two days is to prune the roses. I've read somewhere that the best time to prune roses is "when the lilac leaves are as big as a mouse's ear." I found another dead mouse in the yard and after comparing him to the lilac, it's time to prune.
Also, the Farmer's Almanac Moon Signs Chart says that the 28th and 29th are the best days to prune to encourage growth. Our last frost isn't until April 22nd so there is still plenty of time to begin gardening. It's just so hard to not rush out to the nursery!
