With the rising cost of gas, I recently made our contribution by turning off the furnace and pilot light. Of course that was back when temps were spiking into the 80's. Tonight we're all bundled up against the damp cold. Good thing the down comforters haven't been put away yet!
I almost did the same thing. I had planned to shut the furnace completely down, possibly for the last time. (Plan on getting a new furnace/central air later this year). I avoided doing it though. a) I hate going into the basement. The stairs are steep, and I seem to *almost* fall every time I go down there. b) I'm lazy. lol So, with temperatures of 36° this morning a few miles southwest of you, I turned the heat up to 67° to take the chill off.
